There has been tension around the country as to whether the elections would go ahead on the 14th of February as had been set and planned for over a year now. Well, Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that the elections would indeed be postponed till the 28th of March, 2015.
The reasons he gave are that all the security agencies in the country have informed him in writing that they would be unable to support the elections if it remains fixed for the 14th of February. I mean I have heard quite a lot of poppycock in recent times but this one just takes the biscuit. How is that even possible? Do they realize the deeper implication of their reason and the effect it may cause?
It means that we are basically on our own because if ALL our security agencies are not capable of ensuring a peaceful election, what would become of us if another country suddenly declares war on us? Or if that psychotic douche-bag Shekau suddenly gets a brainwave to attack every state in Nigeria, what then????
I loathe the way President Jonathan and his team are toying with the lives of citizens. It is terribly wrong of them. What magic do they hope to perform in six weeks in ensuring that the citizens are better secured and protected from terrorists, which they didn't think to do this whole time they've had? Why wait till a week to an election that indicates greatly that the incumbent would lose before they come up with "6 weeks special operations against Boko Haram"????
They didn't come up with this brainwave 300 days ago when the Chibok girls were taken! They didn't come up with this genius new move when several school boys were slaughtered in their hostels by Boko Haram in Yobe a year ago. It didn't occur to them when lives were lost brutally in the Nyanya bombings and others like it. It suddenly just hit them that they need six weeks more to finally crush BokoHaram when they have a week to the long-awaited elections!!!!!
